Go away, huge bear!

DSC_0241

A few days ago I talked about a great road ride in WV that I love to do. That got me thinking about this photo, which Katie took last year during our trip out there. We stayed in a ski condo near the top of Snowshoe Mountain, and this bear came right up to our deck for two straight evenings during dinner time. Thankfully the deck was elevated about eight feet above the ground below.

(Crazy) people in these condos must feed the bears from their decks.....great idea. He (she??) actually looked pretty harmless, except for the fact that it was a 300 pound black bear.

Gary, your fellow ski condoites must be (have been) insane! Glad you survived that. I love bears and that picture is cute, but 8 feet is nothing to a hungry bear or defensive mother bear. Glad that you survived that.

I'm just sayin'

Yeah-did you read about the tiger attack in San Fran? Scary!!

Annazed, this is Dave's blog, not Gary's. Gary is much better looking than I am.

But, either way, you're right...8 feet isn't a whole lot of distance between you and a bear.

Wow....i did two 24hrs of Snow Shoe races in 2000/2001 and that bear is the last thing I'd want to see on the trail. A bear can out sprint Chippo for a short distance and are to be respected; I bet your right about some dumb a$$es feeding it.

That bear looks so cool. Do you think it would make a great pet? :-)

I bet a Liger could kick that bear's ass.

When I was in college I went to minor league hockey game where one of the attractions was get your picture taken with a bear on the concourse. While I didn't pony up the cash for the pic, I must say the trashy "bear handlers" were much scarier than the gentle beast himself.
